Fern and Sea rooibos chai, is an incredibly smooth chai blend with a natural sweetness and slightly nutty taste. Rooibos, combined with Fern and Sea’s chai spice blend, is a delightful caffeine free chai. When brewed for longer, rooibos is full-bodied and rich and you can smell the warm woody notes rising from your cup or teapot. Rooibos is a popular tea which has been consumed in the Cedarberg mountain region of South Africa for more than 300 years. The plant was first recorded by botanists in 1772 after they enjoyed a sweet-tasting brew offered to them by the local people. The tea is made by cutting and bruising the leaves and stems of the plant, fermenting them in piles and leaving them to dry in the sun. This is the process which turns the leaves to their characteristic red-brown colour. The main nutritional benefit of rooibos tea lies in its rich antioxidant content and it being a source of some unique polyphenols including aspalathin. These protective plant compounds may help aid against the free radical damage that leads to conditions like diabetes, heart disease and potentially cancer.
how to brew
Place a heaped teaspoon of chai into a pot with 3/4 cup of water. bring the water and chai to a simmer so you get all the flavors dancing in the pot. Add a cup of your milk of choose and bring to a simmer then strain, or brew as you would a black tea. Can be enjoyed either hot or cold.
